The Broad Museum : Skylit

For The Broad Museum’s pre-opening exhibition, artist Yann Novak was chosen to present his audio/video work entitled “Stillness”.  Although the work was originally created as two individual video projections to fit a small gallery, this installation required the piece to fully utilize the main wall of the 3rd floor gallery, a staggering 178′ wide and 23′ tall.  In order to make this happen, Launch designed a projection system that could seamlessly blend across the entire width and height, allowing the artist to create the visual split between works at any place along the wall.  To compete with the brightness from the overhead skylights, 18,000 lumen projectors were used for the project.  Due to the piece needing to loop over 40 times during the exhibition, fully redundant playback systems were put in place.  Launch also provided its stock of Meyer UPAs, UPJs, and miniature MM4 speakers to facilitate the rest of the installation, as specified by Heardrum’s Martin Carillo.
